We hope this site has been helpful and informative.
Your generous contributions will continue to ensure that vital information
and advocacy tools are sent to you daily. In addition, we intend to
expand upon the benefits and information important to you, such as
candidate responses to important questions, their voting records and our
rankings. It is critical that we maintain a strong presence in
Tallahassee as well as a desirable political endorsement and a healthy
funding arm that can raise contributions to help elect those legislators
that are committed to push our issues. With over 30,000 people receiving
services and 16,000 on the waiting list our numbers are strong, and add to
that our families, friends and professionals, we have one very large
voting block. Imagine if everyone contributes, the resources we would
have available to hire the most influential consultants.
Collectively as a group, we are much stronger than we would be as
fragmented groups or as individuals. I know first hand that strong
political clout is required to accomplish anything in Tallahassee. This
means a strong lobbyists that will make DD issues their top priority.
Just as the AARP speaks for seniors and the Chamber of Commerce speaks for
business, FFDD will speak out for the developmentally disabled.
Like other successful groups, we must rally friends, professionals and
families to raise the funds required to become a group that matters to
lawmakers, not one they feel sorry for and throw a few crumbs to now and
then. With FFDD, we can truly influence the election process. We can
produce mailings for those candidates that support us and secure
billboards or broadcast commercials for those who don't. We can hire
consultants and attorneys to craft language, draft bills and budget
proviso, file administrative rule objections and even initiate class
action if necessary. Our endorsement will be one that is coveted and one
that every candidate will work hard to earn.
Your input and your contributions will help our developmentally disabled
community maintain a strong presence in the State capital to lobby for
services and funding, and most importantly to extinguish the waiting list
for services for those who have been deprived assistance for so long.
For over 10 years I've walked the halls of our capital, both as an
advocate and as a state legislator, fighting for our developmentally
disabled population. As a result, I have established relationships with
many of my former colleagues who know how passionate I am about these
issues. Because of that I feel compelled to do what I can, and to do my
best to improve the lives of our most vulnerable. With your financial
support, we can compile the resources so that we are poised and ready for
this upcoming session.

proactive movement to recoup and maintain much needed services! A few
